Stop the closure of Remploy:
Model trade union letter requesting support for London meeting
23 March
The NSSN is asking it's supporters to use the
following model letter to build support and sponsorship for a public meeting in
London. This is part of a wider campaign that is developing to save the Remploy
factories.
Dear friend,
RE: CAMPAIGN AGAINST REMPLOY CLOSURES
You will be aware of the recent disgraceful decision by the Tory led coalition
government to close 36 Remploy factories. A 90-day notice has already been
served, and over 1700 disabled workers face the sack from as early as this June.
Against a background of austerity, rising unemployment, and a welfare regime
which is hounding disabled people, we believe it is vital that the trade union
movement unites in a campaign to stop the closures and save jobs at Remploy.
At a recent meeting of Disabled People Against the Cuts, attended by national
GMB convenor for Remploy Les Woodward, as well as representatives from Right to
Work, National Shop Stewards Network and Uk Uncut, it was agreed to organise a
public meeting in Central London to raise awareness and provide a rallying point
for the campaign.
We propose to hold this meeting on the evening of 19 April. Please let us know
if you wish to sponsor the meeting and/or send a speaker.
No closures at Remploy – fight for every job

We urgently request that your trade union back this initiative. Please forward
an invitation to the meeting to all local branches of your organisation. We also
request any financial assistance that you can give towards the cost of the
meeting and publicity.
Please treat this request as urgent. I look forward to your early response.
In solidarity,
To contribute to the Remploy Fighting Fund send donations to Phil
