Kirklees Save Our Services are organising a
lobby of Kirklees Council on Wed 22nd Feb at 4pm. Kirklees
Council will be setting its austerity budget. Proposed cuts include
the privatisation of all in-house home care, day care and respite;
increasing the service user contribution rate to 100% for personal
care services; closing libraries and museums; mothballing of
Children's Centres into centralised units (i.e. - closure of most
local provision); sacking of park rangers; closure of public
toilets (!); ending of 4-weekly glass bottle collections; a review
of all admin staff leading to mass redundancies with proposals to
privatise all social service provision.
The Lobby will take place at Huddersfield Town

Protest against Tory Local Government
Conference organised by Leeds Against The Cuts and Leeds Trades
Council
Tory local government conference is in Leeds on
the 24th and 25th February. Leeds Against the Cuts (LATC) with the
support of the Trades Council, is organising a demonstration and
rally out side the conference on Saturday 25th February.
This has been endorsed by NUT, UNISON, PCS with
many more supporting.
Meet 10:00 to 10:30 on Woodhouse Moor (secure
Coach & Car parking arranged). Speakers from 10:30, Move of at
11:00 (route through Leeds agreed with Police).
Rally in City Square at 12:30. The Conference
is taking place inside the Queens Hotel, which is on City Squire. We
have timed our Rally to coincide with Pickles keynote speech to the
