See below for details of the upcoming strike of Amnesty workers, details of the strike rally and where to send messages of support.
Dear friends and colleagues
Unite members at Amnesty UK went on strike for a second time last week. We have been overwhelmed by the continuing support from individuals, trade union groups, local Amnesty groups as well as staff in some of our sections abroad. Many supporters came to our lunch time rally with messages of support and donations.
We are writing not just to say thank you but to ask you to extend your solidarity to our colleagues at the Amnesty International Secretariat, who will be going on strike on Wednesday, 17 October.
The International Secretariat is the international headquarters of the Amnesty movement, and, like the UK section of Amnesty International is based in London. Staff at both workplaces are members of the same union – UNITE – but they had separate ballots over separate issues.
A delegation of Amnesty UK staff will join colleagues at the Secretariat on their picket line at 1pm and we hope many of you will too. If that is not possible please send them a message of support. Find the details below.
We will get in touch with you again once we have decided on further steps in our own dispute at Amnesty UK.
In solidarity, Rich Cowley & Daniela Manske

STRIKE DETAILS INTERNATIONAL SECRETARIAT:
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Workers at the International Secretariat of Amnesty International (International HQ) will be on strike on Wednesday 17 October.
UNITE members voted overwhelmingly (96.5%) to strike over repeated breach of agreements.
The latest breach of agreement that triggered this action was the announcement 2 hours prior to releasing plans that would make potentially dozens of staff redundant, that the existing agreement on redundancy and redeployment would not be followed.
We will be picketing from 8.30am at 1 Easton Street, London, WC1X 0DW
We will be holding a rally at 1pm and would like to invite fellow union members to come and support us.
Venue: Church Hall, 24 Exmouth Market, EC1R 4QE
Please send messages of support to: [email protected]
Please send donations to : Easton Street Strike Fund (cheques payable to this name), C/O Unite, Amnesty International International Secretariat, Peter Benenson House, 1 Easton Street, London WC1X 0DW
